Sexual health is about so much more than one bacteria and one infection. Feelings, relationships and communication are just as important. Here are the answers to some of those intimate questions.
Around the world, Chlamydia infection has been on the rise for over 10 years.
Young people are more likely to get a Chlamydia infection because:
- they might have more partners because they haven't decided on a long term relationship with one person or for other reasons
- young women's bodies are more susceptible to the Chlamydia bacteria
Using condoms is therefore extremely important for most sexually active young people.

Most people with Chlamydia don't have symptoms. If they do get symptoms they might not feel like getting intimate. They might only discover they have Chlamydia later if they accidentally give it to a sexual partner through unprotected sex or if they develop complications. These relationship issues and longer term consequences, and the way they feel generally about having a sexually transmitted infection might affect how they see their health.
